Hello dear friends, I’m so proud to present this visual artist. Two months ago when my eyes caught his name on Instagram with the account name of @aris.setya, I knew he must be an Indonesian.
The sun shined when we met in Central Station and walked down to Grand-Place. Aris is an easy going person that everyone can easily get along with. His visual eye is like a sharp knife as he captured beautiful things around us.
“I have lived in Brussels for almost 3 years and I have been exploring this beautiful city. I walk around and I love this city. Everything can be my inspiration; everything can be my object. I like the buildings, the streets, the parks, the culture and the people”, tells Aris. He is a self named artist, fitting the title since he does writing and painting besides the photography.
No wonder that Brussels Express chose him as one of ‘must follow’ intagrammer. “Aris Setya has colorful pictures, representing Brussels in a fascinating and charming way,” says their review in September.
Currently studying photography in the photography class of Jakarta Institute of Art, he was already in love with photography since he was a child. “I remember that I borrowed a camera from my neighbor with film inside and just started taking pictures. In 2013 one of my friends asked me to take a pictures of their pre-wedding and the wedding. After that another couples asked me to do the same thing. From these experiences I thought maybe I had a talent for photography,” he explained enthusiastically.
“For me Brussels is home. The city mixes modern and ancient, Brussels is the heart of Europe. In the streets or in public transportation you can hear many languages and you can see people with different background and nationality. That makes this city rich of culture and very dynamic as well as very colorful,” say Aris. One of his specialties is food photography. “Living in Brussels for me is starting a new chapter of my life. What I like about this city is also the public transport, the parks, the culture. I never found as many festivals or cultural events as in Brussels,” he admitted.
“I will be able to speak French fluently and I will have my own gallery. I also hope to write books and have exhibitions of my works!” he said smilingly. Amen!
Well, dear friends. We wish the best future for this young man. And for sure, we’ll hear his name again in the future. We’re very happy since last two weeks, Aris support the team of I love Brussels as a visual manager. He selects the nice pictures from local creatives to platform I love Brussels. Let’s follow him on facebook page and his Instagram.
